Hello, and welcome!
If you are reading this, you probably know us personally in real life. If you don’t, you’ll probably find this website incredibly dull. Feel free to click away, stranger.
But, in case you decide to stay and still don’t know who we are, I suppose introductions are in order. Here’s the (current) line-up:
Lena
Weighing in at just over 10 lbs, this 8 week lady sure can scream. She has been the center of our attention these past few weeks, both day and night. I used to think the sleep-deprived new parent thing was cliche. Not anymore! Her other hobbies include surprisingly audible pooping, kicking and waving her arms frantically, and more screaming. Occasionally, she will smile and coo enough to make it all worth it.
Chelsea
One heck of a woman, and newly a mother of the previously introduced baby. Chelsea grew up, as she says it, “in a tiny, tiny farming town about two hours outside of Chicago. You’ve probably never heard of it.” While she got her degree in chemistry, now she teaches 6th grade math.
Dylan (me)
I’m an engineer. I grew up in Texas. Not as clever as I think I am.
Pleased to meet you.
About this blog
As far as the greater vision of stilesfiles.org goes, I’ll be honest – I don’t really know where to start. This website/blog/journal will probably just turn into a jumble of status updates that appear incoherent to anyone else besides me. If so, I apologize, Dear Reader.
I don’t have any particular manifesto. No master plan. I mostly want this site to document everyday life for our young family so that we have an easy way to look back and supplement our failing memory when we’re 98. (Will blogs even exist then?)
The things that I see being included on this site are:
- Monthly updates. This will probably be the main focus. I want to include a summary of what we did each month, complete with pictures or videos. Depending on how much time I have, this might be more like quarterly/semi-annually…
- Philosophical musings. I have a whole lot of knowledge and wisdom that our kids will benefit greatly from hearing.
- Personal finance! This is actually something that I love talking about. We are focused on early retirement, and as a result I track our finances pretty closely. I want to share our actual numbers, but I haven’t decided the best way to do that since I am also sharing our real-life identities.
- Our story. I think it is important to share with our kids what Chelsea and I were like before they
ruinedblessed our lives forever. - Personal interests. I like music, gardening, home improvement projects, and lots of other things. Chelsea likes things, too, I assume. Maybe I’ll convince her to write some posts herself from time to time.
- Bulleted lists.
Welp. That’s all I had for today.
Maybe I’ll have an email subscription list? If I do, add your email! Then you’ll get updates sent straight to your inbox.
Bye.
