Posting this in September.
Let’s hit the highlights.
- We took a trip to Texas to visit my mom!
- Chelsea got food poisoning!
- I got sick also, but not as badly!
- We refinanced the duplex!
Lena’s first trip to Texas
We drove down to Texas on Friday and ate at Arby’s for lunch.
By the time we arrived at my mom’s house, Chelsea was feeling the effects of food poisoning, and it quickly escalated. We were able to get Lena to sleep, but then Chelsea and my mom went to the emergency room. Chelsea got put on an IV to help replace fluids.
Chelsea stayed in bed for most of Saturday. While she was resting, my mom, Lena, and I had an “open house” style meet and greet to introduce Lena to the Texas people. She met the scout moms, along with Kay and Tommy.
Saturday night my friends came over for dinner, and then we played Resistance. Chelsea was feeling well enough to join in.
Sunday we went to the park, and I made pizza for dinner, but I got sick that night. Mostly better the next day for the trip back home.
Other events
It’s getting hard to think back this far…
Chelsea and Lena took a (day!) trip to Boulder to attend a reunion for a gifted kids program that she teaches at. Chelsea didn’t get to participate last summer because Lena was a wee babe. It was a quick, stressful trip. I spent the day baking bread and building closet shelves.
Otherwise, February was a normal month, I think. The weather started warming up, so we spent more time outside, including trips to the zoo.
Other thoughts
This part was written in February. I think it was meant to be a starting point for a more descriptive discussion, but I didn’t change anything.
When Lena was first born, my mom kept implying that I would miss being away from her during the day, but that wasn’t really the case. It was fun to come home to see her, but the first few months were focused on caring for basic needs, rather than interactions.
Now, I hate taking her to daycare in the morning. I feel terrible when I get home less than an hour before bedtime, or sometimes even after. She is fun to be around, even though things still upset her frequently. I can tell she is very smart and loves learning. She loves us.
